Vianden, a medieval city with an odd castle
I visited this place on June 2012, it was very quiet and I am a bit confused of what I saw there.
A little village with craggy streets, a "café des artistes" totally deserted, with broken windows, as if everybody has to rushed, to somewhere else ...
Vianden is located in the north of Luxembourg where we can observe a fortified castle, apparently built in the 10th century.
And what about the castle ? Outside, it's marvellous (when we know the story, that it has been sold, piece by piece, by greedy people... Victor Hugo loved this place and wrote a text about the importance of preserving it).
But when you come in, it's such an historical disorder.
For example, we can see the traditional coat of mail "cotte de maille" for soldiers in front of old guns and cannons (I think it's not the same time at all).. with no real historical explanation (does it come from the castle itself ?). And the worst part of it is when you come into the "typical old kitchen" with a reproduction of an old lady cooking, we saw a flat screen-TV behind the lady (showing us the new castle plan, why is it here ? Just on a bench ?!). Amazing, I did not know that they already had the TV, in middle of the 14th century ! A weird exhibition then.
